Slate is a kind of metamorphic rock with plate-like structure and without recrystallization. The original rock is argillaceous, silty or neutral tuff. Slate stone can be peeled into thin pieces along the direction of foliation. Slate stone color varies depending on the impurities it contains.

Hebei province is mainly a major producer of slate, have a wide variety of slate stone, mainly producing rustic slate, yellow wood grain slate, black slate, grey slate and white quartz, pink quartz. Jiangxi province is another slate hometown, mainly producing black slate and green slate.

Slate stone mainly used as garden plaza floor paver tiles, exterior wall cladding tiles, roofing tiles.
